Ever Wondered What Happens Along a Production Line? This Play Gives You an Inside Look

If you have never toiled on a production line, and you imagine it as mindless drudgery good only for the reward of a paycheck, then a poetic rhapsody about the job from a twenty-something auto worker will be an ear-and-eye-opener. Don’t miss your chance to see Skeleton Crew by Dominique Morisseau this September.

Skeleton Crew is the story of four factory workers at the last automobile stamping plant in Detroit and their struggle to survive as the industry and their way of life is dramatically changed. For protagonist Shanita, her job gives her a sense of importance. If she steps away from the line without calling for backup, it all falls apart.

Set in 2008, the start of the Great Recession, the play takes place in the break room of one of Detroit’s last auto stamping plants, where a makeshift family of co-workers swap stories, share dreams, and take pride in their work. When confronted with the life-altering choices they must face if the factory closes, dynamics shift, and each is pushed to the limits of survival. Loyalties are tested and boundaries are crossed.

Be sure to see what The New York Times calls a “deeply American play” on Sunday, September 16th at the Alley Theatre. Tickets for this showing are available online and at the box office. Groups of ten and up are eligible for special rates, so get your friends together and save!
