Date night can be weird during the coronavirus pandemic! Your usual go-tos for the special occasion are just not the same, as you find yourself avoiding restaurants, movie theatres, entertainment venues, and other date night activities that force you to get up-close-and-personal with folks outside of your Quarantine bubble.
Because of the pandemic, a lot of couples have been looking for alternatives to their usual night out on the town… and takeout meals paired with a movie tend to be one of the most popular choices! Not sure where to start with your movie pick? Keep it light, funny, and romantic with one of these 3 rom coms:
When Harry Met Sally // Where to Steam-It: Netflix
Everyone remembers the romantic comedy classic When Harry Met Sally –didn’t your mom always watch it on loop whenever it came on TBS or TNT when you were a kid? Now, you can enjoy the same flick from an adult standpoint and stream the 1989 film, starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, on Netflix. Harry Burns and Sally Albright first meet as college graduates in 1977— both sharing continuous car ride from Chicago to New York where they plan to pursue their adult dreams. One of their main talking points on the way to the Big Apple is an argument surrounding whether or not men and women can truly be friends. Ten years later, Harry and Sally meet again at a bookstore and attempt to stay friends without romantic attraction becoming an issue between them.
Penelope // Where to Steam-It: Amazon
Released in 2007, Penelope is a film where romance meets fantasy. Starring the beloved Christina Ricci and the heartthrob, James McAvoy, this film tells the story of Penelope Wilhern, a young girl born with a pig snout, who has become a prisoner of her own home. Believing that the only way to break this curse is to marry one of her own kind, Penelope meets a number of male suitors. But, they ultimately reject her in one way or another… until a handsome con-artist is hired by two devious men with a grudge against Penelope’s family. The plan goes awry, however, when the man – played by McAvoy – begins to fall in love with Penelope for who she is. Cute, heartwarming, and adventurous, it will be hard to take your eyes off the screen, once you begin to stream this rom-com favorite on date night.
Isn’t It Romantic? // Where to Stream It: Hulu
The most recently released on our list, 2019’s Isn’t It Romantic?, Is a fun romp, starring the ever-lovely, Rebel Wilson and the ever-handsome, Liam Hemsworth. Workaholic’s Adam DeVine and Nick Jonas’ bae, Priyanka Chopra, are also part of this slammin’ cast. The movie centers around a New York architect named Natalie, who is a cynic of love and pours all of her attention into getting noticed job – which isn’t really going her way. Her adventure starts when she is knocked unconscious during a subway mugging and magically wakes up to find herself in an alternate universe where she is the leading lady in her very own rom-com! There’s music, dancing, and a whole lotta L-O-V-E, as New Line Cinema revisits the big studio rom-coms we loved so much in the 80s, 90s, and early aughts.
