Jay Pharoah makes it look easy. America’s foremost impressionist, known for displaying his chameleon-like mimicry and sharp comic reflexes on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, is bringing his stable of voices to Houston for a weekend run at Houston Improv.
The gifted stand-up, who recently announced he was leaving the landmark comedy shop after six seasons, has been compared favorably to a young Eddie Murphy and Fresh Prince-era Will Smith; he also does killer impressions of both. Since 2012 Pharoah has portrayed President Barack Obama on SNL, taking over for departing Portlandia star Fred Armisen.
Pharoah’s other pitch-perfect voices include “Hotline Bling” rapper Drake, sports commentator Stephen A. Smith, film legend Samuel L. Jackson and famed Kim Jong Un buddy Dennis Rodman. In his stand-up, expect Pharoah to bust a number of these trademark personas, along with his wry takes on entertainment and pop culture. With SNL now in the rear-view mirror, you’d better catch Pharoah’s face while you can.
Community interaction is an important part of life, which is why Oxford at Country Club Apartments in Baytown, Texas is urging you to join in the all of the excitement at this event!
